In the novel A Murder is Announced, Mrs Ashe lives with her husband in a cottage in the grounds of Dayas Hall in Chipping Cleghorn. She is a former lady's maid and so could differentiate between costume and real jewelry. From her, Mr Ashe came to the conclusion that Letitia Blacklock did not have much that was valuable worth robbing--her jewelry was costume.
