In the short story The Adventure of the Clapham Cook, Mr Todd is the husband of Mrs Todd. After Mrs Todd engages Poirot to trace her cook Eliza Dunn who disappeared from their house in Clapham, Mr Todd dismisses Poirot, sending him a cheque for one guinea as a consultation fee. This enrages Poirot who is determined to solve the mystery in any case. Mr Todd was described as melancholy lantern-jawed man of forty odd and works for a firm in the city.

Portrayals[]

In the ITV 1989 adaptation of the story, Mr Todd is portrayed by Anthony Carrick. Here he is described as working for "Prudential" in the city. His first name is "Ernest" as can be seen on the cheque which Poirot frames up at the end of the episode.

In NHK's anime adaptation The Adventure of the Clapham Cook, Mr Todd also appears. Here he gives Poirot a cheque for one pound and his first name as seen on the cheque is "Aaron". He has a large number of lines including an interview with Poirot and another one with Mabel West. At the end of the second episode, over a dinner with Poirot and friends, Mr Todd also announces a raise for Annie and Eliza Dunn. The voice actor behind the character is not, however, credited.
