In the novel Sleeping Murder, Mr Sims is the builder and decorator who Gwenda Reed hired to undertake the renovations at Hillside. He is described as "a persuasive middle-aged man with a husky voice and a little notebook which he always held at the ready, to jot down any expensive idea that might occur to his patrons."

Portrayals

BBC's Miss Marple

In the BBC 1987 adaptation of the novel, Mr Sims is portrayed by Edward Jewesbury. The portrayal is fairly faithful to the original complete with notebook in hand. Some of the lines and activities of Taylor, his leading workman, are given to Sims in the adaptation as Taylor is not featured.

ITV's Agatha Christie's Marple

In the ITV 2006 adaptation of the novel, Mr Sims is portrayed by Richard Bremmer.
