In the novel A Murder is Announced, Mr Rowlandson is the manager at the Royal Spa Hotel in Medenham Wells. After the incident at Little Paddocks, Rowlandson told Inspector Craddock that he was quite surprised, because Rudi Scherz seemed "a very ordinary, pleasant young chap--not at all my idea of a hold-up man." Asked for his evaluation of Scherz, Rowlandson said he was "Quite satisfactory" but Craddock noted an infinitesimal pause before the reply and knew there was more to it than that.

In the BBC 1985 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Mr Rowlandson is played by David Pinner.
In the ITV 2005 adaptation of the novel, Mr Rowlandson is played by Richard Dixon. In this adaptation, he is the one who introduces Inspector Craddock to Miss Marple.
