In the novel Mrs McGinty's Dead, Mr McGinty was the deceased husband of Mrs McGinty. After they had married, they lived near Ilfracombe. They later moved to Kilchester, where he worked at the drapery department at Hodges. Eventually the couple moved to Broadhinny.
By the time Mrs McGinty was murdered, her husband had been dead for seven years having died of pneumonia.
