In the short story The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb, Mr Harper was the secretary of the wealthy American financier Mr Bleibner. Poirot at first considered Harper as a possible suspect for the various deaths occurring at the Men-ha-Ra excavation but dismissed it because only a doctor could have perpetuated and concealed the crimes.

Harper was played by Simon Cowell Parker in the film adaptation of The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb' in Series 5 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. Here he was given the first name "Nigel". Here he also came from Yale and was a college-mate of Rupert Bleibner and Dr Ames.
