In the novel A Murder is Announced, Mr Goss is the vicar in Little Worsdale near Chipping Cleghorn. According to Johnnie Butt's father he spoke to his congregation like they were children, unlike his own vicar who is learned and brings "culture" to Chipping Cleghorn.
