In the stage play Love from a Stranger, Mr Dunning is mentioned. He sold the house to Cecily Harrington and Bruce Lovell. Cecily remembered that she paid fifteen hundred pounds for the house because she wrote out the cheque herself. However, Hodgson the gardener said that the village talk was that Dunning sold it for only nine hundred and fifty pounds. In fact he had heard Dunning lament that that was the most he could ask for because the condition of the house, and that he would be out of pocket because of this.
