Mr Applegood is a non-canonical character created for ITV's 2001 adaptation of Evil Under the Sun . He is a bank manager who has charge over Arlena Marshall's financial affairs. Shortly after Arlena is murdered, Poirot sends Miss Lemon to meet Mr Applegood to obtain background information about Arlena's financial situation.
Mr Applegood tells Miss Lemon that normally such matters were confidential but in view of Poirot's stature and the fact that he is investigating her murder, the bank is will cooperate, especially since the bank is already concerned about the pattern of her transactions. According to Mr Applegood, some six weeks previously, Arlena had instructed the bank to withdraw her entire fortune which she wanted in bearer bonds. She did not reveal her intentions although he had tried to elicit it from her. As to her mental state, Applegood said that she did not appear nervous or afraid. Rather, she seemed determined.
Mr Applegood is portrayed by Kenneth Gilbert. There is no such character in the original novel but there is a law firm Barkett, Markett & Applegood which takes charge of Arelna's financial affairs. Applegood's name is probably a nod to this firm.
