In the novel Death in the Clouds, Monsieur Fournier is the French detective from the Sûreté who was assigned the case of the murder of Madame Giselle. According to Monsieur Gilles, chief of the detective force at the Sûreté, Fournier was "of the newest school" and "all for the psychology" and therefore someone whose style of working would suit Hercule Poirot well. He is described as a "tall thin man with an inteligent, melancholy face".

Fournier worked with Monsieur Giraud, who told him about Poirot.

Portrayals[]

In the the film adaptation of Death in the Clouds in Series 4 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot drama series, the part of Fournier was played by Richard Ireson. In the credits he is given the title of Inspector.
