In the novel The A.B.C. Murders, Miss Rose was a former employer of Alice Ascher. Alice had been her cook-housekeeper. She lived at The Grange, which was three miles out of Andover. When Miss Rose died, she left Alice a small legacy, which allowed her to start her tobacco and newsagent business.
