In the short story Christmas Adventure, Miss Levering was the sister of Oscar Levering and part of a brother-sister pair who had succeeded in stealing a precious ruby belonging to an unnamed nobleman. She followed her brother to the Christmas house party hosted by Miss Emily Endicott. When she heard that Poirot was also coming to the party, she feared that he was on their trail and so she hid the ruby in a Christmas pudding and by a coincidence, this ended up in Poirot's hands. Miss Levering fled the scene with her brother towards the end of the story.

Miss Levering's role in the story is comparable to that of Miss Lee-Wortley in the expanded story The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, the only difference being that she and Oscar Levering were really siblings. In the longer story, the relationship was merely a cover.
