Miss Lemon has created a code system, used to note how to reply to different letters that Poirot receives. She also writes them with hieroglyphics, only eligible by her.

Bill paying system[]
When paying bills she never pays bills promptly to firms which Poirot just recently has opened an account. It would look as he was working up to get some credit later.
