Miss Gilchrist

In the novel After the Funeral, Miss Gilchrist was Cora’s paid companion; a timid and meek woman often overlooked and misused by the arrogant Abernathie heirs. Mr Entwhistle observed that Miss Gilchrist was a "spare faded-looking woman with short, iron-grey hair" with "one of those indeterminate faces that women around fifty so often acquire."

Before the war she had a small tea shop.
