In the novel After the Funeral, Miss Entwhistle is the sister of Mr Entwhistle. She keeps house for her brother. A devoted sister, she chided him for wearing himself out investigating and following up on matters relating to the Abernethie family. In her opinion he was already retired and should not risk his health moving around too much.

Late in the novel, she is woken up by the ringing of a telephone call from Helen Abernethie asking to speak to her brother. Miss Entwhistle tries to tell Helen to call again later as her brother is still asleep. She only reluctantly agrees to wake her brother up to take the call. Helen begins the conversation by saying that she had remembered something about the people after the funeral and it didn't make sense.... She was struck down before she could say any more. The delay engendered by Miss Entwhistle may thus be considered unfortunate.
