In the novel The Pale Horse, Lady Minnie Hesketh-Dubois was the godmother of Mark Easterbrook. Her husband had been an ex-Govenor on some obscure island. She and her husband had no children, but she had a niece and a nephew. Her husband had been an only child.
Lady Hesketh-Dubois lived at 49 Ellesmere Square, S.W.1. She was poisoned with thallium, but it was diagnosed as a tumour of the brain, and died in April.
