In Peril at End House, Mildred Croft is an Australian woman. She and her husband are renting the lodge next to End House.
Mrs Croft is a "stout middle-aged woman with pretty grey hair and a very sweet smile". She suffered a spinal injury due to a train accident, and has to lie on a sofa. She has read about many of Poirot's cases, as she finds that reading detective stories is a good way to pass the time while healing from her injury.
She tells Poirot that Charles Vyse is in love with Nick Buckley, and hints that she has her own reasons for being interested in Nick.
Charles Vyse later receives a will that Nick made, leaving everything she had to Mrs Croft, in grateful recognition of the services she had rendered to Nick's father in the past. It is revealed that this will was a forgery produced by the Crofts. It is further revealed that Mrs Croft is really Milly Merton, a forger who is wanted by Scotland Yard. There had been an accident involving the car they had made their last getaway in, which was how she sustained her spinal injury.
