In the novel Murder on the Orient Express, McNeil's Detective Agency is one of the best known and most reputable private detective agencies in New York. Cyrus Hardman in an employee of the agency. According to Hardman, he had been pursuing some criminals across Europe and had ended up in Istanbul. He was about to return to New York when Samuel Ratchett wrote to him.
