In the short story Within a Wall, Mary Carrington is a friend Jane Haworth. She had sent Jane a photo of her baby daughter which Jane displays along with various photos of other babies. The artist Alan Everard who thinks highly of Jane's artistic judgement can't understand why. Jane insists that the baby is lovely and Mary is one of her oldest friends.
