In the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, Mary Adams was a resident of St. Mary Mead. She was present at the inquest of the death of Colonel Protheroe. The vicar overheard snatches of gossip between her and another woman where she wondered whether he "had a hand in it".

She does not appear in either the BBC 1986 film adaptation of the novel or the ITV 2004 adaptation.
