In the novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Marston's Spinney is an isolated location near Styles Court. John Cavendish had been summoned there on July 16th, by an anonymous note. The note threatening to reveal certain matters to his wife unless he complied with its demands. Mr Cavendish went there and waited for thirty minuted, but no one showed up.
