In the short story The Dressmaker's Doll, Marlene works in the workroom at Alicia Coombe's dressmaking shop.
When the doll in the fitting room appears to be moving on its own, Sybil Fox asks the girls in the workroom if they have been moving the doll. Marlene says that she did not, and jokingly suggests that the doll got up and walked to the desk herself.
