Mark Gatiss (born 17 October 1966) is an English actor and writer. He has worked on several adaptations of works by Agatha Christie, both as an actor and a script writer. He is married to Ian Hallard.
Gatiss is best known as the co-creator and co-star of the hit BBC programmes Sherlock (opposite Steven Moffat) and The League of Gentlemen (alongside Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith), as well as being a frequent guest writer and occasional guest star for Doctor Who.
Gatiss is the recipient of a BAFTA, a Peabody Award and a Primetime Emmy. In 2024, he won an Olivier for portraying John Gielgud in The Motive and the Cue opposite Johnny Flynn as Richard Burton.
