In the short story The Arcadian Deer, Marie Hellin is a former maid of the ballerina Katrina Samoushenka.

Both Madame Samoushenka and Sir George Sanderfield described Marie as a sneaking, prying sort of person who was always looking into locked drawers and so on. It later turned out that she was blackmailing Sir George, although the details of the blackmail are not given in the story.

Ted Williamson asked to meet Marie, thinking she might be the mysterious "Nita" whom he once spent an afternoon with. In this he was sorely disappointed. Instead of lovely girl with hair like "wings of gold", Marie was "a dark catty-looking girl--a bold lot if there ever was one." She would do nothing without payment but at least, after Williamson promised her a present, she gave Williamson an address which traced to one Bianca Valetta.
