In the short story The Harlequin Tea Set, Maria Horton (née Addison) was the younger of two daughters of Tom and Pilar Addison. She inherited her mother's dark complexion. Maria married the village doctor, and had a daughter named Inez. Maria died in childbirth and was not present during the events in the story.
