In the Tommy and Tuppence short story The Crackler, Marguerite Laidlaw is the French wife of Major Laidlaw. She and her husband are members of the Python Club and are frequently gambling and socialising there. Marguerite is extremely good looking and always seems to be a train of admirers following her.
Tommy observed that Marguerite had "the slenderness of a wood nymph and the face of a Greuze picture." Tommy found her "dainty broken English" fascinating.
Tommy and Tuppence are investigating a currency counterfeiting operation which might be operating from the club and consider Marguerite and her husband plausible suspects. Marguerite's father Monsieur Héroulade made frequent trips to France and the police believe part of the counterfeit operation might be in France. Furthermore, at least two men at the club, Hank Ryder and Jimmy Faulkener tell the Beresfords that they had received banknotes from Marguerite and these were later found to be fakes.
