In the short story The Dressmaker's Doll, Margaret is one of the girls working in the workroom at Alicia Coombe's dressmaking shop.
When the doll in the fitting room appears to be moving around on its own, Sybil Fox asks the girls in the workroom if they have been moving it. Marlene says that she did not, and if Nellie and Margaret say they did not, then none of them did.
Margaret later tells Sybil that the doll has moved to the desk, and that neither she nor any of the other girls would have done such a thing. According to Sybil, Margaret looks "quite queer" when she says this, and so she believes that it was not Margaret who moved the doll.
