In the short story The Adventure of Johnnie Waverly, Marcus Waverly of Waverly Court, Surrey, was a country squire and the latest in the line of one of the oldest families in England. He was married to Ada Waverly and had one son Johnnie.
Poirot observed that Waverly was a bon viveur but he was impoverished and did not have much money for himself. His wife had most of the money and was reluctant to part with it.
