In the novel The Body in the Library, Major Reeves is the father of the missing Girl Guide Pamela Reeves. He lives at a neat little villa called Braeside. He is described as a "stiff man with a grey moustache".
Major Reeves and his wife, Mrs Reeves, receive a visit from Detective Superintendent Harper, who breaks the news of Pamela's death to them. They are both very upset, but Major Reeves agrees to answer Harper's questions because he feels that no time must be lost, if Pamela's death was due to foul play.
Major Reeves confirms what Harper had already learned from the local police, that Pamela had gone to a Guides rally, and had been expected home for supper. Pamela's fellow Guides had said that after the rally, she had said she was going into Danemouth to shop at Woolworth's, and would catch a later bus home. Major Reeves says that this was quite normal for her. He states that Pamela had no other plans that they were aware of, and that she had no undesirable friends.
As Harper is leaving the house, Major Reeves points out a photograph of a hockey group, where Pamela is in the centre. Harper feels that she was a "nice kid, if he ever saw one", and so vows to hunt down the murderer.
