In the novel Dead Man's Folly, Major Folliat is the deceased husband of Amy Folliat and father of Henry and James.

Old Merdell told Hercule Poirot that the Major was very unlike his father Old Squire Folliat in that he was not interested in sailing or boats. He was only interested in horses (horse racing) and gambled away a lot of his money. He was also a heavy drinker. As a result, his wife Amy had a very hard time with him.

According to Mrs Folliat, Major Folliat died just before the outbreak of war. There was a photograph of him in the Lodge, in which he was wearing his uniform. He had a stiff moustache and a weak chin.
