In the short story SOS, Maggie Dinsmead is the wife of Mr Dinsmead. The pair live with their three children; Magdalen, Charlotte and Johnnie. She is perpetually nervous, related, perhaps to the "atmosphere" of the house they live in which is in a remote location. She is described as "a little faded woman, with colourless face, meagre hair scraped back from her forehead".
