In the novel Sparkling Cyanide, Luxembourg is an upscale restaurant in London which features prominently in the plot. One year before the events in the book, Rosemary Barton died during a dinner intended to celebrate her birthday. A year later, her husband George Barton decides to hold another dinner there with the same guests. What follows forms the main plot of the story.
Luxembourg is, for some of the guests, a place they did not want to go to because of the memories but at the same time they could not avoid the place. It was a restaurant one was always been invited to. The restaurant is owned by Mr Goldstein and the formidable headwaiter Charles seems to know everyone and is known to everyone. Other waiters in the restaurant include Giuseppe Bolsano and Roberts. There are also six junior or apprentice waiters, one of whom is Charles's nephew Pierre.
