In the novel The Pale Horse, Lou Ellis is a blonde girl who has a fight with "Tommy" Tucker at Luigi's espresso bar in Chelsea. The dispute was over a man Gene Pleydon. He had been going out with Lou but then left her to go after Tommy. Tommy died shortly after. By then Lou had found another man and for this reason, she was ruled out as a possible suspect in causing Tommy's death.
