In the short story Swan Song, the Earl of Rustonbury is the husband of Lady Rustonbury. Rustonbury, described as "a large, square man, with an interest in horseflesh and in nothing else", is extremely wealthy and this allows his wife to indulge in her fancies, which includes the occasional staging of private theatrical and operatic performances at their private residence Rustonbury Castle. In the story, the Rustonburys hosts a performance of Tosca featuring the famous opera singer Paula Nazorkoff.
