In the novel Sparkling Cyanide, Lord Dewsbury is the chairman of United Arms Ltd., a manufacturer of armaments. Colonel Race and Chief Inspector Kemp noted with some concern that in the recent past, the mysterious American Anthony Browne had successfully cultivated the friendship of Lord Dewsberry. As a result Dewsbury has invited Browne to his house as a house guest. Through Dewsbury, Browne had been introduced to many other contacts in the arms industry and had visited many armaments plants. Wherever he went, some trouble such as an act of sabotage arm to follow. Dewsbury's own plant, for example, has some trouble with the trials of a new tank but this has been prevented just in time.
