In the novel The Pale Horse, Lizzie Parker (AKA Old Mrs Parker) is one of two women whom Ginger Corrigan overheard discussing the predictions of Sybil Stamfordis at the fortune telling tent during fête at Much Deeping. Mrs Parker thought the fortunes were nothing but foolishness. Mrs Cripps, her friend however thought Sybil could see things that others couldn't. Also Thyrza Grey could accurately sense an approaching death. To this Mrs Parker agreed: "Death--that's different. It's a gift."
