In the novel A Murder is Announced, Little Worsdale is a village near Chipping Cleghorn. Among its residents are a Mr Timkins and Mr Goss, the vicar.

Bunch is swopping funny stories with Julian Harmon about clergymen who tended to over intellectualise things and turned the joke on themselves. She says Johnnie Butt's father was overheard saying the other day that there was real culture in Chipping Cleghorn, not like in Little Worsdale where the vicar Mr Goss tended to talk to his congregation like little children. Mr Harmon had real culture, educated at Oxford, and all the things he knows about the Romans and Greeks "and the Babylonians and the Assyrians, too." Even the Vicarage cat, Butt says, "is called after an Assyrian king!"
