In the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, Little Gates is a cottage in St. Mary Mead where Mrs Lestrange lives. Before she moved into the cottage, an Anglo-Indian Colonel had lived there. During this time the cottage was filled with brass tables and Burmese idols. Under Mrs Lestrange the cottage "was furnished now very simply, but in exquisite taste. There was a sense of harmony and rest about it."
According to the map which Christie included in the novel, Little Gates is at the junction of Vicarage Road and the High Street.
