In the short story The Plymouth Express, Lieutenant Alec Simpson was a naval officer who discovered the body of Flossie Carrington in his compartment on a train between Newton Abbot and Plymouth.

Lieutenant Alex Simpson was played by Robert Locke in the film adaptation of The Plymouth Express' in Series 3 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. In the film his name is not mentioned and he doesn't get a speaking part. The character is credited simply as "naval officer". He discovers the body together with the porter when trying to push his suitcase under the seat.

This is much the same in NHK's anime adaptation The Plymouth Express. The naval officer is not named. He discovers the body when he tries to push his bag under the seat shortly after Newton Abbot. The voice actor behind the character is not credited.
