In the novel Evil Under the Sun, Leathercombe Bay is a village on the Devon coast. Just off the coast from the village, Smugglers' Island and the Jolly Roger Hotel is located. The village is close enough to the hotel that the village church bell can be heard. It has shops catering to the needs of visitors. The hotel itself has no telephone and the phone at the post office is the nearest facility. It is common for hotel guests to spend some time at the village on various errands. There were also scenic walking trails leading from the village.
With Burgh Island corresponding to Smugglers' Island, the real-world equivalent of Leathercombe Bay is Bigbury-on-Sea.
