In the short story The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb, Lady Willard was the wife of the eminent English archaeologist Sir John Willard. Her husband had died at the excavation of the tomb of the Egyptian King Men-her-Ra. The newspapers speculated about the possibility of there being an ancient curse. When Mr Bleibner and Rupert Bleibner, who were also present at the excavation, also died in quick succession, Lady Willard asked Poirot to look into the matter. She wasn't necessarily superstitious but simply wanted to know how much was newspaper chatter and how much was fact.
