In the radio play Butter in a Lordly Dish, Mariam, Lady Enderby has been married to Sir Luke Enderby for ten years. She knows that he is unfaithful to her, but has takes a philosophical view about it. She has thought about leaving him but in the end accepts her situation. Many things go into a marriage. They have their children to think about and Sir Luke is a good father and he does treat her well and appears fond of her. He runs after many woman all the time but she thinks that is just his weakness, an infatuation that doesn't in the end mean anything. Lady Enderby spends her time looking after her children and buying things for the house.
