In the short story The Capture of Cerberus, Lady Carrington is a society woman who has fallen on bad terms. To avoid a scandal she is selling her emeralds by leaving them to get “cleaned” at Golconda Ltd. There the precious stones are changed for paste jewels and are probably sold on the continent, and Lady Carrington receives payment.
