In Yokoku Satsujin, the 2019 TV Asahi Japanese adaptation of A Murder is Announced, Kurumai Kyuzo (車井久三 - Kyuzo Kurumai in Western format) is the direct parallel of Rudi Scherz from the original novel.
He used to work as a security guard at Otaru Kita Hospital where he met the Kuroiwa sisters (the Blacklocks) frequently. Some two weeks before the events in the show he took up a job at the Royal East Hotel. He met Reiri and was asked to help in a practical joke to be played at Komichi-no-yakata (Little Hall - "Little Paddocks").
Like Rudi, Kurumai had been stealing from the hotel till. He also had a girlfriend Harukawa Mana (春川真名) (Myrna Harris). Kurumai had told her what he was meant to do as part of the practical joke.
The part of Kurumai Kyuzu is played by Oura Ryuichi (大浦龍宇一).
