Sir Kenneth Branagh (born 10 December 1960) is a Northern Irish-British actor and director. He directed the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express, in which he also starred as Hercule Poirot. He reprised the role in the films Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice. He is the former husband of actress Emma Thompson.
Branagh rose to fame for directing and starring in several acclaimed film adaptations of the works of William Shakespeare (specifically Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Love Labour's Lost and As You Like It). Other directorial efforts include Peter's Friends, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Thor, Cinderella, All Is True (in which he played Shakespeare) and Belfast.
His acting credits include Othello, Wild Wild West, Conspiracy, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Warm Springs, Valkyrie, Wallander, My Week with Marilyn, Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer.
Over the course of his career, Branagh has been nominated for eight Academy Awards (winning Best Original Screenplay for Belfast), eleven BAFTAs (winning for Henry V, Wallander and Belfast), four Emmys (winning for Conspiracy), eight Golden Globes (winning Best Screenplay for Belfast), six Olivier Awards (winning Best Newcomer for Another Country), and four Screen Actors Guild Awards (winning in the category of Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture alongside the cast of Oppenheimer).
