In Shi to no Yakusoku, the 2021 Fuji TV Japanese adaptation of Appointment with Death, Kawahari Daisaku is the parallel character of Colonel Carbury. He is the local chief of police in the area of the Kumano Kodo where Mrs Hondo, the parallel of Mrs Boynton, is found murdered.
On learning that Suguro Takeru (Poirot) is holidaying in the area and staying in the same hotel as the Hondos, Kawahari pleaded with Suguro to help him investigate the case. Like Carbury, Kawahari also wants the case resolved quickly, fearing that otherwise the place would soon be swarming with journalists. Kawahari pleaded with Suguro, appealing to their friendship but at first Suguro refuses. Kawahari then appeals to his vanity, saying that the police needs the help of the greatest detective in the world. This works and Suguro agrees to take up the case
