In the novel Death on the Nile, Jules is maître d'hôtel at Chez Ma Tante restaurant. Gaston Blondin was enthusiastic about Poirot coming to his restaurant. Despite the fact that other customers had been told for the last half hour that there were no tables available, a table materialised mysteriously for him. Blondin assured Poirot that Jules would be able to compose a meal for him that would be "a poem--positively a poem!"
