In the short story The King of Clubs, John Oglander Jr. was the son of the family which lived in "Daisymead", the neighbour of "Mon Désir", the mansion belonging to Henry Reedburn. Poirot surmised that he must have accompanied Valerie Saintclair to see Henry who had been blackmailing her. John must have become angry, perhaps at some disparaging remarks made to Valerie and must have struck him. Reedburn subsequently fell, hit his head, and died. John had no intention of killing him and Poirot regarded the event as an accident and not murder (although Poirot assured John's mother Mrs Oglander that the "murderer of Mr. Reedburn will not be discovered"). John was one of the few perpetrators who Poirot allowed to go free.
