In the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, Joe Bucknell is mentioned by Miss Marple. He was the landlord of the Blue Boar in St. Mary Mead, some time before the murder of Colonel Protheroe. He thought that his daughter was involved with young Bailey, but it turned out that it was his wife who was involved with Bailey. This was a parallel of Colonel Protheroe.
