In the novel A Caribbean Mystery, Joe Arden is remembered by Miss Marple. While Major Palgrave was talking, Miss Marple thought about how there was never anything happening at the Golden Palm Hotel, unlike in St. Mary Mead, where something was always happening and there were many interesting human problems. The real cause of the quarrel between Joe Arden and his wife was one of these human problems that Miss Marple remembered.
